A Little Background

I thought I would take a little bit of time today to talk about the background of my relationship with Logan. I believe I have a different type of relationship than most aunt's have with their nephews and there is a little story to that. So here it goes. Logan's parents (my brother) are not married and Logan did not come into this world into an ideal situation. I struggle with this because I don't want out family to be "that family". Obviously we would have loved for it to have been the ideal situation but it is not, so we have had to adapt. For the first 6 months of his life, I saw Logan a total of 4 times, and all of those were under the supervision of his mother. This was hard, because I wanted to be the loving aunt, who spoiled her nephew, but his mother would not let my family see him. At around 6 months things changed and slowly we were allowed to have him during the day and eventually he was allowed to spend the night at my parents house. Since then we have been building up our relationship and I usually get to spend Sunday's with Logan ( my parents babysit now while his parents work). That is why I treasure every moment I get to spend with him, because I know how quickly it can be taken away. I don't have children of my own, so I love spending time with Logan and spoiling him like crazy! Now to part two of the story. Baby #2 is on the way in September, same parents, they are getting along better now. However, I am hesitant because of the situation with Logan's first year, I am not sure how the mother will react and how much time my family will get to spend with her. I have been checking out all these online stores for bows and tutus but can't bring myself to buy any yet because things could change in a moments notice. So I struggle because I can't wait to have a little niece to spoil as much as I do Logan, but we are always on pins and needles, never knowing when the situation will change. I hope I haven't rambled too much but that is a little background on the situation. I strive to give Logan as many experiences as possible, because I only want the best for him. Being a teacher has made me want to give him the best of everything because I see so many children, who lack so many things. Thanks for reading this. Here is a little video from this past Sunday.
